Meet The Staff
Lauren Nelson, Surgical Assisant
Lauren Nelson was born in California and moved to Alaska at the age of 12. She attended home school with the hopes of graduating early. She graduated at the age of 16 and started working immediately at a local coffee shop, The Grind. In the year of 2016, Lauren came to see Dr. Charles Schultz for her wisdom teeth removal and was offered a job. With excitement, she turned in her resume the next day and has been a surgical assistant ever since. Lauren plans to further her surgical knowledge with as many continuing education classes she can take. She has been taking advantage of the opportunity to assist in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry when the opportunities arise. When not at work, Lauren is usually hiking with her two labs, Peach and Bailey. She recently fulfilled one of her life goals of becoming a home owner and has been busy with projects.
McKenna Lesmann, Surgical Assisant
McKenna was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. As the eldest of three kids, her childhood revolved around hiking, skiing, fishing, and exploring her beautiful backyard. McKenna earned her Associates in Health Science from the University of Alaska Southeast in 2017 and began working at Southeast Dental Group shortly after graduating. During the first week of training, McKenna fell in love with oral surgery and the SEDG staff. She dreams of one day taking the skills she’s acquired to volunteer as a surgical assistant in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, where she previously visited in 2014. In her spare time, McKenna enjoys walking dogs, spending time with her family, and leading a local high school group, Younglife.
Josie Beck, Surgical Assisant
Josie Beck originally hails from North Seattle, and later moved to the St. Louis area where she met and married her husband in 2008. They moved to Juneau in 2011, after visiting some of Josie’s relatives and falling in love with the beauty and wildness of Alaska, and uniqueness of Juneau. When she isn’t working for Southeast Dental Group, Josie enjoys exploring and camping with her family, which now includes two very active children. She recently enrolled in online college classes to finish her last few credits needed to receive her BA in Communications. While most of her work history has been in retail management and changing diapers, working in the dentistry field has always been a dream of hers. She enjoys the variety of work, level of professionalism and friendliness displayed at SEDG, and especially loves working with the people. Josie has been trying to catch the tooth fairy since she was three years old and hopes the extra teeth she collects at work finally gets her over the edge!
